World-leading technology

Tasmanians have the highest rates of disability in Australia (26.8% of the population vs 17% nationwide). We also have the highest rate of residents aged 65 years and over (19.3% of the population vs 16% nationwide). Our state has a unique population and deserves an innovative approach.

We provide intensive movement therapy with Tyromotion’s LEXO Robotic Assisted Gait Trainer and Omega Plus Therapy Bike.

ART is one of only a few rehabilitation facilities in Australia – and the first in Tasmania – to offer the Tyromotion LEXO Robotic Assisted Gait Trainer to clients.

LEXO Robotic Assisted Gait Trainer (RAGT)

The LEXO RAGT combines a body weight support system with end-effector facilitation of locomotion. This combination allows for a range of passive, assistive, and active training of lower limbs to enhance endurance, strength, and the development of walking and balance skills.

The benefits of this state-of-the-art machine include improvement to:

  • Gait pattern & velocity

  • Walking distance

  • Muscle Strength

  • Postural Control & balance

  • Endurance

Rehabilitation with this technology can also mean reduction in:

  • Cardiovascular stress

  • Fall risk

  • Immobility

Through the positive impact that this equipment can deliver, additional benefits would likely include:

  • reducing length of hospital admissions

  • reducing rates of hospital readmission

  • reducing likelihood of patients needing placement in high level care facilities (such as supported accommodation facilities and nursing homes)

  • increasing possibility of patients returning to the workforce post neurological injury or illness.

Omega Plus Therapy Bike

This multifunctional chair enables therapy in a sitting, standing, or lying position, allowing gait training across all phases of rehabilitation.  This incredibly versatile bike is suitable for the needs of neurological, orthopaedic, geriatric, and paediatric patients, and offers the following options for therapy

  • Stepper

  • Leg press

  • Sensor training

  • Cycling
